Ask Your Healthcare Provider is a regular segment of the Florida Birth Source. When considering the many choices related to your birth, there are important questions you should ask your HP to ensure you are as informed as possible.
If you are considering opting for an epidural during labor, you may want to ask your HP the following questions:
1. How many of your patients opt for an epidural?
2. How many of your patients end up receiving an epidural, whether they planned for one at the onset of labor or not?
3. What are your thoughts about the use and safety of an epidural?
4. How many of your patients choose not to have an epidural at the onset of labor?
5. What are your thoughts on delivery without an epidural?
6. Would you manage a patient’s labor differently based on her decision to opt for an epidural or not? If so, what are the differences?
7. Do you have any children of your own? If so, were they born with or without the use of an epidural?
